Live UK TV fixtures for August-September 2015 released
Man Utd to open 2015/16 season as Sky Sports and BT Sport make their first TV selections
Man Utd's first home match of the season against Spurs will be shown on BT Sport
The first fixtures of the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League selected for live broadcast in the UK have been announced by BSkyB and BT Sport.
The announcement of the fixture changes for the months of August and September in the first week of July this season is earlier than previous campaigns – last season the announcement was made in the third week of the month - to give fans the necessary time to make travel plans for the rearranged matches.
In a similar vein, the selection of matches for live UK broadcast for October and November will be announced by the end of July, a minimum of two months before the first of those matches are played.
Manchester United will raise the curtain on the new season for the second campaign in succession when they host Tottenham Hotspur in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday 8 August, live on BT Sport.
Fixture changes explained >>
Louis van Gaal’s side will be hoping to avoid a repeat of last season, when they started the 2014/15 season with a home defeat at the hands of Swansea City. First up again, this time against Spurs, United will aim for a repeat of their last performance against the north Londoners at Old Trafford, which resulted in a 3-0 home victory over the north Londoners.
Chelsea will open their title defence later that day when they host Garry Monk’s Swansea, in Sky Sports’ first live offering at 5.30pm BST. After doing the double over the Welsh side last season, and scoring nine goals in the process, the champions will be confident of hitting the ground running.
Also live on TV in the first weekend of the 2015/16 campaign will be Arsenal, who host West Ham United at Emirates Stadium at 1.30pm on Sunday, 9 August, in a match on Sky Sports, who will also show Liverpool’s trip to Stoke City at 4pm, a repeat of the final fixture of last season, which produced a 6-1 victory for Mark Hughes's side at the Britannia Stadium.
The first Monday night match of the season takes Sky Sports' viewers to The Hawthorns, where West Bromwich Albion will be looking to upset a Manchester City side eager to reclaim the title they ceded to Chelsea last term.
Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa will be aiming to upset Man Utd in the 7.45pm kick-off on Friday 14 August. That weekend will bring an early clash of two title favourites as Man City host Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium at 4pm on Sunday 16 August in an encounter in which Manuel Pellegrini nor Jose Mourinho will wish to concede any early ground.
The following day AFC Bournemouth's first live Barclays Premier League match will be the trip to Anfield in the 8pm Monday night match. Brendan Rodgers' side a week later will go to Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal, who won 4-1 in the same fixture last season.
Other standout fixtures to be broadcast live include Liverpool’s trip to Manchester United at 5.30pm on Saturday 12 September and Chelsea’s home encounter against Arsenal seven days later in the 12.45pm Saturday kick-off live on BT Sport.
The same broadcaster will televise Man City’s trip to Spurs on Saturday 26 September.
Chelsea's home match with Swansea City will be Sky's first live match of the season
