If you want to see how Donald Trump’s world works, register on his campaign Web site—it’s still active. To help keep tabs on the Trump campaign’s activities, I took this step many months ago, and, since then, I’ve been receiving text messages and e-mails every day, purportedly from Trump and his sons, asking for money. After the election, I thought these fund-raising alerts might stop arriving, but they didn’t. They just changed topic. Instead of requesting donations to help reëlect the President, they asked for money to finance his flailing challenge to the results. In the past few weeks, there seem to be more texts than ever.
“Eric Trump: Almost out of time!” said one that arrived on Monday morning. “Our End-of-Month fundraising Deadline is almost here. Pres Trump activated a 1000% IMPACT for 1 HOUR. Donate.” After I failed to click the accompanying link to the WinRed online fund-raising platform, and become one of the campaign’s “IMPACT” donors, the Trumps kindly gave me another chance. “This is Don Jr.,” said a message that hit my inbox on Monday afternoon. “I spoke with my father & he’s REACTIVATED your 1000% offer for 1 more HOUR!... Donate NOW.” Again, I failed to click the link, but that didn’t get me off the hook. “Pres Trump: I UPPED the stakes & EXTENDED our End-of-Month Election Defense Deadline!” said a text that arrived the following afternoon. “All gifts in the NEXT HR will make a 1000% IMPACT! ACT!”
Alas, I never did make it onto this exclusive donor list. It’s safe to assume, however, that some of Trump’s supporters did. Since the election, according to the Times, the President has raised about a hundred and seventy million dollars by continuing to “aggressively solicit donations.” Trump is no stranger to high-pressure sales tactics, of course. Years before he became President, employees of his Trump University, which wasn’t a university at all, allegedly encouraged people, including the elderly, to max out their credit cards to take courses that many said were worthless. In soliciting donations, his campaign is similarly relentless. On Tuesday morning, I got another message, which said, “FINAL NOTICE! Pres Trump EXTENDED your 1000% Offer. We need YOU to help us stop this CHAOS…Donate NOW.
After deciding to write this column, on Wednesday, I clicked on one of the fund-raising links. It took me to a WinRed Web page that featured a picture of Trump holding two thumbs up. “President Trump is counting on YOU to DEFEND the Election, so he asked us to EXTEND your 1000% offer,” said an accompanying piece of text. A bit farther down the page, there were a number of boxes with suggested donations, ranging from forty-five to twenty-eight hundred dollars. If I contributed the higher amount, the page said, I could join the “Election Defense Team,” the “Trump 100 Club,” and the “First Family Circle.”und wenn es tatsächlich stimmt dass er so fast 200 millionen gesammelt hat ..... boah

According to the fine print in the latest fundraising appeals, 75 percent of each contribution to the joint fundraising committee would first go toward the Save America leadership PAC and the rest would be shared with the party committee to help with the party’s operating expenses. This effectively means that the vast majority of low-dollar donations under the agreement would go toward financing the president’s new leadership PAC, instead of buttressing efforts to support the party or to finance voting lawsuits.
“Small donors who give to Trump thinking they are financing an ‘official election defense fund’ are in fact helping pay down the Trump campaign’s debt or funding his post-presidential political operation,” said Brendan Fischer, who directs federal regulatory work at the Campaign Legal Center, which supports greater restrictions on money in politics. “The average donor who gives in response to Trump’s appeal for funds to ‘stop the fraud’ likely doesn’t realize that their money is actually retiring Trump’s debt or funding his leadership PAC.”
(...)
The money collected by the leadership PAC cannot be used directly for Trump’s own campaign purposes, but there are few other restrictions on how the money can be spent. For example, donations could be used to pay for events at Trump’s properties or to finance his travel or personal expenses.
Leadership PACs were established to allow members of Congress to raise money for their allies on Capitol Hill through fundraising vehicles separate from their campaign committees. The money is often used for what is called donor cultivation — feting wealthy supporters in the hope that they will write big checks back to the leadership PAC and other committees.
Over the years, leadership PACs have become must-have accessories on Capitol Hill, as well as among former elected officials who want to retain their political influence by helping other candidates raise money or by raising money on their behalf.
(...)
On Nov. 18, the Trump Make America Great Again Committee struck a formal agreement with Save America, the Trump campaign and the RNC to raise money together through the joint fundraising committee and share the funds, according to federal records. By Nov. 19, the contribution share to Save America PAC had changed to 75 percent from the 60 percent it had been for more than a week, according to a review of the fundraising appeals.
This agreement allows Trump to raise money for multiple accounts at once, including the leadership PAC.
Leadership PAC funds can’t be used to finance the campaign activity of the officeholder or former official who leads the PAC. Any contributing from the PAC to support other candidates for office must be done within federal contribution limits, and that money must come from legal sources.
But beyond that, there are no restrictions on how the official can spend leadership PAC money, said Kate Belinski, a campaign finance legal expert who formerly served as a lawyer at the FEC’s Enforcement Division.
“There’s not really a legal mechanism that would prevent somebody from enriching themselves with the contributions that they receive into their leadership PAC in the same way that personal-use restrictions would prohibit that for a campaign committee,” she said.
One person with knowledge of the contributions said that many came from repeat donors and that emails with dire language about the president’s potentially losing tended to ratchet up the contributions. The person said the campaign had a plan before Election Day to dial up requests for money if the result of the election was not immediately clear.
“Trump is making hay while the sun is shining. He’s taking advantage of all the free media coverage to pay off his campaign debt and fill his coffers for whatever comes next,” said Dan Eberhart, a Republican donor. He added: “I would rather give to Romney 2012 than Trump 2020 at this point.”
In November, the Trump operation sent 498 emails asking for donations — setting a record for monthly fundraising requests from the campaign, according to a tally by @TrumpEmail, a Twitter account that has tracked the president’s fundraising requests since January 2018. By far the most common theme in the emails was an appeal for contributions to the “Election Defense Fund,” according to the account.
The campaign had struggled some with finances earlier this fall, officials said, with campaign manager Bill Stepien deciding to cut TV spending because he feared the campaign could run out of money. Officials said some money was wasted on unnecessary expenditures, such as a pricey Super Bowl commercial and blimps flying in some states.
But some Trump advisers said the money that has come in after the election is a reason the campaign should have never made the spending cuts.

Genau, Onkel Donald.
Guido Buchwald > Diego Maradona
Falklandkrieg hin oder her.

“Danny is a free thinker.”
“Some teachers say 2+2=4, some say 2+2=22.”
NY)
Vaccines arriving thick and fast in Europe, as Africa turns towards treatments
The EC will today finalise its sixth contract for a potential Covid-19 vaccine, with the company Moderna, writes politico.eu. The contract secures 80 million doses for the EU, with an option to double that figure. If and when a vaccine is proven and authorised by regulators, all member states will get access to it at the same time and in accordance with population size. "While restrictive measures can slow down the spread of the virus... we all know that only a safe and effective vaccine will provide a lasting, sustainable solution to this pandemic", EC President von der Leyen stated. In Russia, politico.eu reports that the Kremlin has announced that the Moscow-based Gamaleya Research Institute’s vaccine candidate Sputnik V has proven to be more than 95% effective. The institute stressed that Sputnik V is “cheaper than mRNA vaccines with similar efficacy levels”, a reference to the vaccine candidates developed by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna. Unlike vaccines based on the mRNA formula, which need to be stored in sub-zero conditions, Sputnik V could be stored in standard fridges, something that significantly reduces costs. This would give the Russian vaccine an advantage over many competing vaccine candidates. In Africa, meanwhile, 13 countries have teamed up with international researchers to find treatments that can be used to treat mild and moderate cases of Covid-19, theguardian.com reports. The aim of the project, named Antivoc, is to identify ways of limiting the severity of cases and by extension the number of hospitalisations. African doctors will carry out trials at 19 different sites across the continent. Commenting on the project, Dr John Nkengasong, director of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, said that it would “help answer one of our most pressing questions: with limited intensive care facilities in Africa – can we treat people for Covid-19 earlier and stop our hospitals from being overwhelmed?” One of the groups involved in the project is the Antwerp-based Institute of Tropical Medicine.
